Oh, Hello Trimester 3

When exactly does the third trimester start? Internet tells me 27 weeks and that’s coming up tomorrow, thus hooray and hello!

We have reached the “midwife appointment every two weeks” milestone. Today’s appointment was on the quick side. The highlight reel:

  • Is my upper back pain better? Nope! But I’ve figured out how to handle it at this point. Standing and walking are always fine, as areĀ sitting in cushy high-back chairs with my feet propped up and lying down with my laptop on a pillow. Basically, I can’t sit at a desk like a normal person. I am the master of standing during meetings and only looking minimally awkward.
  • Why the heck do my finger joints hurt in the morning? Apparently that’s a thing. It’s more weird than anything. Plus it will go away after delivery, or so I’m told.
  • Why do the movies show pregnant women eating cake and pizza 24-7, but my appetite is meh? Because Hollywood lies, according to our midwife and most people on Earth. She says it’s fine that I’m actually not that hungry.
  • Here’s a bottle of clear sugary liquid that taste like Hi-C — enjoy! Today was my 1-hour glucose test. So we shall see how that shakes out. For real, it was not that bad. Again, it tasted like weird fruit punch + summer camp, but it was hardly the worst thing.

Best part: our wee one is getting more and more active! Darn anterior placenta means that I still don’t feel as much movement as many other peeps, but he/she is definitely bouncing around. I actually could see my stomach bounce from the outside yesterday, which was awesome. Wee one was also not feeling the heart monitor at our appointment today and made a point to first kick and then flee from the midwife. (Perhaps exhibiting a contrary nature?)

To keep things interesting, we also moved last week. I normally enjoy packing and organizing, but I’m horribly unhelpful in my current state. I’ll do likeĀ a tiny bit of one task and then feel zonked. Bless my wife, who did the majority of the work, and my mother, without whom we likely would still not have a set-up kitchen.

Finally, a fun option! We are not finding out the baby’s sex, so we have a list of names for both and are trying out one each week, so that we are referring to the wee one by an actual name (versus our code name). Only issue: once the name is associated with the baby, I start to like it a lot, even if I was mixed on it at first. Hmm.
